Adventure & Security

There are so many adventures you can experience in Costa Rica. The country is extremely diverse with many different climates. Jungle canopy zip lines, beaches for surfing and swimming, oceans with world class deep sea fishing, diving and sailing, class 4 rivers for extreme rafting, one of the top windsurfing lakes in the world, mountains for parasailing and hang gliding, active volcanoes with natural hot springs, many lush green golf courses, hundreds of species of birds for ornithologists, and an incredibly diverse population with many cultural treasures.

The true culture of Costa Rica remains mostly hidden from many visitors. We specialize in exposing you to the aspects of Tico society and culture that are fascinating and enriching . History and art museums give you the basis for understanding and appreciating what the people of Costa Rica have experienced. Local celebrations throughout the year in small villages are unique to each of the area’s inhabitants. Some villages have specialties for which they are known. For instance, Sarchi is noted for the elaborately hand painted carts they have produced over the years. Other areas may be known for their coffee plantations or talented woodworkers. We will take you off the beaten path and expose you to the “other Costa Rica.

We expand on some of the adventures as you scroll down and read this page. Let us know what interests you so we can build it into your trip.

We view security as much more than just the obvious physical safety. Security is also peace of mind. Avoiding any criminal element; enlisting reliable and safe transportation; maintaining good health throughout the trip; protecting one's resources; being able to communicate with those back home: by us addressing all of these, you will be able to relax with the knowledge that you are prepared for the choices you will make each day. Costa Rica is safe for families with children. It is not a gun culture like most U.S. cities. The biggest risk is to your belongings if you were to take a rental car between venues. The smash & grab of rental cars parked with the occupants gone is the largest risk. This is why we recommend our transfer choices between venues. Your belongings will be guarded at all times from this possibility. If you want to rent a car to get around after arriving at your venue, your possessions will be locked away in your hotel room. However, we find the buses and taxis to be more than adequate; and a considerable savings to your resources. Also, almost all of the adventure excursions pick you up at your hotel. But for those who just need some wheels, we will get you to a reputable car rental at your selected venues.

CANOPY TOUR:

After being picked up at your hotel, you will either ride horses or ATV's to the platforms. The best venues for this type of tour are Manuel Antonio & La Fortuna. The term breathtaking is definitely appropriate. It is not for the timid. But you will talk about it for some time afterward. You are in a harness with a pulley that gets snapped onto a cable spanning two trees. Your breaking mechanism is a leather palm that you apply pressure with behind the pulley as you glide to the next platform. The guides give you all the info & equipment you need. It is up to you to supply the nerve.

RIVER RAFTING:

Once again you will be picked up at your hotel. Manuel Antonio & La Fortuna are also the best areas for this. There are Class 1, 2, 3, & 4 streams. Definitely exhilarating.

MANGROVE COVERED BOAT TOUR:

Manuel Antonio. Monkeys, crocodiles, birds, and much more.

HOT SPRINGS:

La Fortuna has several natural hot springs bathing options. The water comes naturally from the Arenal Volcano. The one shown here offers many pools with different water temperatures in each. You can spend half a day and lounge and have lunch.

DIVING:

Manuel Antonio & Tamarindo.

FLYING BOAT:

This is an ultra light propeller driven glider on pontoons. It has 2 seats, one is obviously for the pilot and the other for you. You take off from the Quepos harbor next to Manuel Antonio. The pilot takes you over the beaches and the coastal jungle. You land back on the water. The pilot also does hang glider tours for experienced fixed wing and soft wing pilots. He is from France but has lived in Costa Rica for 4 years. He has been hang gliding for 20 years.

SAILING TOURS:

Manuel Antonio & Tamarindo offer many sailing tour packages. Snorkeling, swimming, food & drinks are offered for your pleasure.

DEEP SEA FISHING:

We have several deep sea fishing captains in Manuela Antonio/ Quepos and Tamarindo. There are large and small boats with an array of prices and options. Sailfish, rooster fish, reef fish...you name it and it is there. Let us know what you are after, and we will email you specific information pertaining to the kind of fishing you are interested in. For the avid fisherman looking for billfish and roosterfish, we recommend Crocodile Bay. (www.crocodilebay.com) We will fly you down on Nature Air to this fishing mecca. It is located in area 9 on our map across the bay from Golfito. This is a very exclusive and unique opportunity for serious fishermen.

SURFING:

Of course there is great surfing in so many places. Jaco, Tamarindo, and Manuel Antonio are all great surfing spots. But there are spots that the locals like to keep hidden. (Do you blame them?) We are talking with one of the restaurant owners that surfs every day about a "Blindfold" surfing tour. You would be taken to the spot and back without any visual reference. Food & drinks would be provided. Could you handle it?

GOLFING:

There are many great golf courses throughout Costa Rica. Los Suenos near Jaco has a whole golfing community. The Costa Rica Country Club near Escazu has a beautiful course. Tamarindo has many new courses, some designed by PGA pros. Once you determine where you will be staying, we will email you all the golf courses in your area.

SUNBATHING & SWIMMING @ THE BEACH:

Manuel Antonio, Tamarindo, Jaco, and Puerto Viejo. All are great beaches with their own style. You are lying on your lounge chair waiting for the waiter to bring you lunch and a cold drink. Where are we eating tonite? Do you feel like listening to some music at Bamba Jam? Let's do this again tomorrow and go rafting on Thursday. These are not tough choices.

MASSAGE:

This can happen at any venue. It can happen at the beach under a tent, at the hot springs by the volcano, or in a special place with hot stones & aroma therapy.

COFFEE PLANTATION TOURS:

We have 3 coffee plantation tours at this time, and more coming. You not only tour the plantation, but also get a tour of the roasting plant. Sampling the espresso and coffee, learning growing techniques, an explanation of the harvesting and roasting process, packaging and shipping to the stores are but a few of the many areas covered. One tour even serves a Tico lunch and has a theatrical production on the history of coffee.
