Did you know that....There are 22 indigenous reserves in Costa Rica. Indigenous people make up 1.6 % (64,000) of the population. There are only 650 people left in the Maleku tribe.

After many visits to Costa Rica, we were struck not only by how similar the travel companies were but also how many tours barely scratch the surface of an incredibly rich and unique country. There were many companies that gave good tours, but we wanted true cultural exchange beyond the tour guides and store clerks in the tourist towns. Aside from the comfort of a nice hotel and the exhilaration of an exciting adventure, some of us desire the mental stimulation of exploring another society and culture.

It was that desire in us which prompted us to start Carpe Diem Trips. We sold our small manufacturing business and moved our family to Costa Rica. Although our business is based in California, we live in a small town near the capital of San Jose. Living in Costa Rica enables us to immerse ourselves in the culture and society of the Ticos (native Costa Ricans), so that we may offer you rich, authentic experiences as well as stimulating and accurate information. Our personal meeting with you on the first day you arrive is one of the main reasons we enjoy owning this business. To meet with people of similar interests and fascinations from around the world is a very enriching experience for us as well. Your ideas and observations from your part of the world stimulate us to seek new experiences to show you from our part of the world.

We pride ourselves in finding positive, kind and capable people here in Costa Rica to partner with in providing you a great experience. Our business motto is simple: “ Say what you do, Do what you say.” We communicate and then facilitate. The communication you provide on the information form will enable us to sculpt a trip that you will always remember.

We do not want to inundate you with a barrage of ads nor are we in the business of cookie cutter, factory vacations. We pride ourselves on creating a unique, authentic and enjoyable trip tailor-made to fit the diverse people we service.
